Shortage of Labor Inspectors in Punjab to be Addressed Soon: Labor Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond
– Recruitment for 52 Labor Inspectors under process
Chandigarh, March 27:
Punjab Labor Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, while responding to a query in the Legislative Assembly, assured that the shortage of Labor Inspectors in the state will be addressed in the near future.
In response to a question raised by Principal Budh Ram, the Minister informed the House that the recruitment process for 52 Labor Inspectors is currently in progress and is expected to be completed soon. He highlighted that the Punjab Labor Department has a sanctioned posts of 95 Labor Inspectors, of which only 35 positions are currently filled. Due to this shortfall, existing inspectors are required to manage multiple circles in addition to their designated postings, posing challenges in ensuring their physical presence in every assigned jurisdiction.
The Minister further stated that the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board has already conducted a written examination for 52 posts on March 9, 2025. Upon completion of the recruitment process, the department will be strengthened with 52 newly appointed Labor Inspectors, significantly improving service delivery and regulatory oversight.
Additionally, to facilitate the construction workers, Labor Department has launched a Punjab Kirti Sahayak Mobile App for registration/renewal of their memberships while sitting at their home and work place.
